Rangarirai Gavin Muchetu (born on the 20th of July 1987), is the firstborn of Mr and Mrs Muchetu. He grew up in a typical farm set-up in the rural areas of Hurungwe in Mashonaland West province of Zimbabwe.

Dr R.G Muchetu worked as a researcher with the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS) and holds a Master’s degree in the Social Science field of Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. He is very passionate about analyzing the growth trajectory, opportunities, and constraints in the agrarian commodity exchange systems. He has worked on a number of research areas for the past five years with the SMAIAS which includes land use, food security, productivity, woman land rights, climate change, youth unemployment, illicit financial flows.

He obtained his PhD studies from Doshisha University in the old capital of Japan, Kyoto. He is studying agricultural commodity exchange systems in Zimbabwe's rural areas. His PhD thesis particularly focuses on how farmer organizations and cooperatives can be utilized as conduits for peasant socio-economic development. His prime concern is to develop alternatives that provide a level playing ground for the peasant farmer to participate and benefit fairly in the global markets.

He is open to dialogue leading to the political and socio-economic development of vulnerable (women and children), third world development, eradication of poverty and reduction of the income gap between the haves and the have-nots.

A commodity appears, at first sight, a very trivial thing, and easily understood. Its analysis shows that it is, in reality, a very queer thing, abounding in metaphysical subtleties and theological niceties.
